Modelling PLE based learning
Rita Kop (fredkop) , November 18, 2010.
In Wednesday's PLENK2010 Elluminate session Sebastian Fiedler gave us his thoughts and ideas on Personal Learning Environments. He moved the discussion from the technology to the concept and made us think about the personal learning, rather than the learning environment. Here some more thoughts on models of personal learning. PLENK Before and After
, Week Ten General Discussion
by Ken Masters.   Hi AllJust a little after halfway through the course, I had to go to Damascus to give a presentation at a medical education conference. Although I spent almost all the time working (I'm like that, especially when other people are paying , I did manage to get one morning off, and explored the old Damascus. (By old, I mean really, really old - as in, the oldest functioning capital city in world old). Of the photographs I took, these two, taken just outside the Mosque, .... [Link] 2010-11-18T16:40:04

A course dependent on students using their PLE/PLN is dead simple to devise, until you add in the assessment component. While Reading Fiedler & Väljataga's paper, "Modeling the personal adult learner", I thought, these five layers (systems) of organization ring true to my own experience. I’m not sure I could have understood this at age 21 though. Besides some well-developed foresight, it requires a degree of hindsight not readily available to college freshmen. I think this model can also provide insight, or at least context, to the questions raised about MOOC engagement drop-off in the discussion .... [Link] 2010-11-19T04:07:00

#PLENK2010 is coming to an end, one last idea for all participating educators
, julia's PLENK2010 posterous
During this final week, I participated in Sui Fai John Maks survey, and had a short and very nice discussion with him on the Moodle forum. (I'll reply John, did not manage today.) His input made me, an autonomy-addict and structure-rebel, for the first time in my life think, what syllabus could engage me to participate in a course with little or no autonomy. I thought of a course, where I could research intensively, and be consulted by professionals additionally, to develop a .... [Link] 2010-11-18T16:42:00

#Plenk2010 might be coming to an end, but not for me.  As a newbie, my primary objective was to “marinate” in the chaos of a MOOC and see what happens (I think the term “marinate” comes from John Seely Brown as quoted by Harold Jarche during his Elluminate session).  Time to reflect now.  Have I learned anything?  It’s hard to say since, in the grand scheme of things, ten weeks is a relatively short period.  The answer should definitely be positive in a few .... Modelling PLE based learning
noreply@blogger.com (Welsh Cloggy), Observations about learning, knowledge and technology
InWednesday's  #PLENK2010 session Sebastian Fiedler gave us his thoughts and ideas on Personal Learning Environments. He moved the discussion from the technology to the concept and made us think about the personal learning, rather than the learning environment in PLE. His model to analyse personal learning looked like this: During the discussion following his presentation quite a few questions were asked about this framework: would people move from 1 through a continuum to 5? How .... [Link] 2010-11-18T13:47:00

Applying Critical Reasoning
Downes, Half an Hour
A PLENK participant wrote:I have found that when I actually apply my critical knowledge skills - questioning the status of procedures, rules and arguments- I pay a price. It may be that I am ignored or I am excluded. Or judged difficult. But the point is that even when we do enable our students to be users of knowledge - and encourage them to question, the pressure within society - our institutions - effects a price. The price is usually economic and social exclusion.Hmmm..What to do ....
