Each week, PLENK moves to a new weekly discussion forum. You can see them all here. Today, we are starting the Week 7 discussions.

Question on participation stats
, Week Ten General Discussion
by Ken Masters.   This is related to the 'whimper-bang' topic, but is side-splice dealing with the participation stats. In George's presentation, the participation rates are given per week. I think that is a fairly common and useful breakdown. But I do have one question. Are those the number of posting during that week, or within that week? By during, I mean: postings that were made at the time that the week was officially running. By within, I mean: postings made after .... [Link] 2010-11-18T05:56:03

When I enjoyed learning
, Week Ten General Discussion
by Larry Phillips.  Once upon a time, I had hair and lived within walking distance of the Burlington Public Library. The children's section was my personal learning environment. I read most of the books there -- once. I didn't look for metaphors or de-construct text. I didn't look for or reflect on the life lessons embedded in the text. And I certainly didn't assess my learning.Did I learn anything? I had a better vocabulary than most of my peers. I managed to get .... [Link] 2010-11-18T03:23:27

An opportunity for lurkers, silent, and/or self-directed learners to share
, Week Ten General Discussion
by Helene Fournier.  Recently, a research notice was posted to indicate that "A limited number of participants have been invited to join Helene Fournier in a focus group that will explore the notion of learning through "lurking" (that is, silent or self-directed learning) in PLENK2010." Minh McCloy commented (shared with persmission): I lurk. I also demi-lurk. I have done so on this & previous MOOCs. And you have overlooked me! I am a prideful lurker. Easy to do of .... #PLENK2010 Thoughts on Fiedler and Väljataga’s Paper, Personal learning environments: concept or technology?
howardjohnson, A Chronicle of a Learning Journey
I agree with Sebastian and Terje’s paper on this point: “The development of Personal Learning Environments represents a significant shift in pedagogic approaches to how we support learning processes” . . . “(and it) is not a separate space on the internet, it is an essential part of the users’ workspace”. As S&T point out, many people [...] [Link] 2010-11-17T18:13:27

PLENK2010 What Did I Learn?
noreply@blogger.com (Skupik), Skupiktalk
PLENK2010 There seems to be some hand-wringing about what was learned from this PLENK MOOC. I don't believe that all can be known at this point. I am still reading some of the longer reports and intend to re-read much of the material. Every day new websites and applications are mentioned. There is just so much stuff out there. I have been sharing with my community of teachers here, and one person is replying with gratitude for the information. Actually, that's not a bad .... [Link] 2010-11-17T15:55:00
